Planning for action

"Recipe for success" and action plan

b_dagson81.gifThere is no shortcut to becoming a Lean organization. The Lean-tools themselves do not create sustainable results. With careful consideration and openness to the principles the Lean philosophy and tools offer, and with the courage to let the employees find their way in the application of what the Lean method offers you will achieve results that follow the newly acquired knowledge and experience. Lean is a lot of systematized common sense.

Summary for getting started:

  • Get knowledge about the Lean concept
  • Lean must be a joint effort by the leadership and employees Lean is not a waste elimination exercise, it is about value creation for the customer.
  • Don't introduce Lean faster than what you can increase your know-how
  • Handle only as many value streams as you have resources for
  • Appoint a value stream responsible to be accountable for improving and maintaining the process
  • Start with few processes that you know will be easy to improve (active leadership)
  • Ensure that the leadership and employees understand the current state
  • When you have learnt the method, choose processes that will give you potentially even greater benefits and/or the customer even greater value
  • Don't misinterpret activities and results. This has been the mistake of many organizations
  • Work systematically and continuously with improvements
  • Make regular reviews of the progress
  • Create a organization that supports the principals and the value flow
